Educators of the Year

Miss Atwater

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School is proud to announce our Teacher of the Year for the 2016—2017 school year. Miss Niesha Atwater was born and raised in Thomaston, Georgia. She is the middle child and has an older brother and a younger sister.
She is a product of the Thomaston-Upson County Schools System where she graduated in 2002. She then decided to obtain her undergraduate degree from University of West Georgia where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2006. After graduating, she decided to return to Thomaston where she taught second grade for four years. During her second year as a teacher, she decided to return to school to receive her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia College and State University.
In 2014, she was ready for a change and began working with Clayton County Public Schools. She has taught at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary for three years. While here, she has taught second and third grade and is currently teaching fifth grade. She plans to continue her passion by educating herself, current students, and future students. She is currently enrolled at Brenau University working on her Specialist Degree in Early Childhood Education. We congratulate Miss Atwater on this prestigious achievement and are ecstatic that she will be
representing MLK as our Teacher of the Year!
