MLK STEM Program

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary is a Magnet School of Botany and Zoology. This STEM program affords students an opportunity to engage in rigorous and challenging STEM curriculum, focused on the study of Botany and Zoology.

The rigorous and challenging STEM focused curriculum is enhanced by ongoing Project Based Learning (PBL) activities. During PBL, students actively engage to find the solutions to real-world and/or community specific problems that they have identified. Students and teachers collaborate with industry experts and program partners (CEISMIC – GA Tech, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and the Atlanta Zoo) to engage students in hands on learning that promotes critical thinking and develops deeper understanding. Via observations, data collection, research, and plant and animal husbandry, King students participate in a variety of activities and experiences that expand students’ knowledge of the theme.

If you would like to know more about King ES or arrange a school tour, please contact Ms. Illya Johnson, Magnet Lead Teacher at illya.johnson@clayton.k12.ga.us or via phone at 770-991-4651.
