Educators of the Year

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School is proud to announce our Teacher of the Year for the 2017-2018 school year.  Mrs. Taquila Johnson-Collins was born on October 25th and raised in Warrenton, Georgia. Mrs. Johnson-Collins is married to Marcus Collins.  She is  a product o f the Warren County Public School System where she graduated in 1999.  She then decided to obtain her undergraduate degree from  Georgia State University where she earned a  Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Journalism in 2003. After years of graduating, she began working with Clayton County Public Schools as a kindergarten paraprofessional. This is when she decided, along with the support of her husband, to pursue her graduate degree at University of Phoenix. Mrs. Johnson-Collins obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2012.  During this same year, she became a certified teacher. All of her hard work and determination prove just how she was committed to growing  and excelling in the education field. She has taught at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary for five years and currently teaches fourth grade.  Mrs. Johnson-Collins’  educational philosophy centers on the belief that all students can learn and have the right to high quality  education.  She has learned that teaching is a lifestyle that extends well beyond the contracted hours and meeting students where they are, and not dwell on where they should be. Currently she is  working on her reading endorsement to better meet the needs of her students. We congratulate Mrs. Johnson-Collins on this prestigious achievement and are ecstatic that she will be representing MLK as our Teacher of the Year!
